The effect of student-based combined method on academic achievement and critical thinking in the course of planning and evaluation in instruction

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of student-based combined method on academic achievement and critical thinking in the course of planning and evaluation in instruction. At the second class of Social Sciences Teaching at Firat University, an experimental application was done with the groups experimental and control, the results of the application was compared statistically. In the research, 35 students were chosen for the experimental group among the ones who study in day program of the department of Social Sciences Teaching and for the control group, 35 other students were chosen among the students who study in night program of the department of Social Sciences Teaching at Fırat University. The research was done as ?pre test - post test control group model?. For the experimental group, a program was applied, consisting of materials related to studentbased combined method in order to develop the academic achievement and critical thinking and for the control group, the traditional method was applied. The research was completed in 6 weeks (1 week for preparation). In the research, the data was collected via the scales of academic achievement and California critical thinking tendency (CCTDI). Some of the research findings are such as; 1- There is a meaningful difference between the pre test and post test scores of academic achievement scale in the experimental group. 2- There isn?t a meaningful difference between the post test scores of academic achievement scale in the groups of experimental and control. 3- There is a meaningful difference between the pre test and post test scores of critical thinking tendency scale in the experimental group. 4- There isn?t a meaningful difference between the post test scores of critical thinking tendency scale in the groups of experimental and control. At the end of the research, according to the results, the suggestion of the research is; Instead of giving lessons in one type of method, some other methods which are different and complete and support themselves in every case are more useful for students. These kinds of methods help students in having attention and willingness towards their courses. For this reason, through the lessons, using suitable methods and techniques can be effective.
