Abstract (EN)

Environmental problems have become a general international problem in developed and developing countries in the world and common solutions have been sought. However, the resources that each country has, the development policies they implement and the activities they show in this field differ from each other. Bringing together sustainable development differences on a common ground covers the types of economic and social development that protect and improve the natural environment and social equality. This definition explains that there are three basic aspects: ecological, economic and social. Each individual should review their personal consumption in order to contribute to the provision of a sustainable and safe environment for the future. The carbon footprint is the sum of the carbon dioxide emissions that are directly or indirectly accumulated during the life cycle of a product created as a result of the activities of the individual. In this study, it is aimed to take a student dormitory in Thrace as an example and to calculate the carbon footprint of the dormitory and to examine it on the axis of sustainability. The open sources of the GHG (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) protocol were used for the carbon footprint calculation. In the determination of carbon footprint, main data such as total electrical energy consumption, heating values, daily transportation values of personnel and students, fuel types of vehicles used by personnel were used.
