Investigation of the relationship between social appearance anxiety and self-efficacy belief in prospective teachers

In this study, it was investigated whether there is a significant relationship between social appearance anxiety and self-efficacy beliefs in prospective teachers. In addition, it was also examined whether social appearance anxiety and self-efficacy belief differ according to the variables of gender, department, educational status of the parents, number of members in the family and income status of the family. In the study, Social Appearance Anxiety Scale, Teaching Competence Expectation Inventory and Personal Information Form were applied to 350 (247 females and 103 males) prospective teachers studying at the faculty of education of a state university in the 2018-2019 academic year. SPSS 23.0 package program was used for statistical analysis of the data in this study. Based on the results of the study, there is a low level negative correlation between social appearance anxiety and self-efficacy beliefs in prospective teachers. While there was no statistical difference in social appearance anxiety levels of the participants in terms of gender, department, educational status of parents, number of members in the family and income status of the family, it was determined that self-efficacy beliefs significantly differ in favor of female participants according to the gender variable.
