Abstract (EN)
This study focuses on determining the opinions of teachers regarding the roles they anticipate from school managers for implementation of elementary curriculums. Within the scope of the quantitative research, population of research conducted through survey method is composed of class and branch teachers serving in elementary schools in the counties of Keçiören, Yenimahalle, Çankaya and Kalecik in the province of Ankara. Since it is difficult to reach all class and branch teachers serving in all schools in the counties except Kalecik county, sampling method is preferred through determining schools with various qualifications (elementary schools in places at lower socioeconomic levels alt, elementary schools in villages, elementary schools in the country, elementary schools in central districts, private elementary schools, pilot schools for elementary curriculums).A questionnaire consisting of 35 items which involve the roles teachers anticipate from school managers for implementation elementary curriculums and personal information form are conducted for the sampling group. Five point Likert type options are given for each item in the questionnaire in order to determine the frequency of the occurrence of the behaviour which is planned to be measured.648 questionnaires were distributed individually among teacher in the schools included in the sampling group by the researcher in the period of October 2009 - January 2010. The number of questionnaires appropriate for the evaluation is 558 after eliminating incomplete and incorrect questionnaires.The data collected out of the questionnaires is entered into the SPSS 15.0 programme and analyzed by the means of this programme. The level of p=0.05 is taken as a basis for the tests of significance between groups. Frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation is used in the analysis of data. Analysis regarding the data obtained is performed not through parametric tests but through nonparametric Mann ? Whitney tests which are used in the comparison of two groups and Kruskall Wallis tests which are utilized in the comparison of groups more than two in number.The opinions of teachers regarding the roles they anticipate from school managers for implementation of elementary curriculums are inspected and the results given below are obtained based upon the findings provided from teachers.1. It is understood that the roles teachers expect from school managers in terms of implementation of elementary curriculums are educational leadership roles.2. It is found that school managers fulfil their role of ?meeting the requirements of stationary materials (photocopy etc.) required by the programmes? most frequently and their role ?inspecting teachers during a lesson? least frequently when generally evaluated teachers? opinions regarding school managers? educational leadership roles for the implementation of elementary curriculums.3. School managers usually fulfil their educational leadership roles of ?being a source of information and guiding, creating a physical environment and supplying essential sources, managing programme applications and education, enabling career development of teachers as well as his / her career development, inspecting, assessing and evaluating, designing and organizing education activities?.4. School managers usually fulfil the role ?to be a source of information and guiding?.5. School managers usually fulfil their role of ?creating a physical environment and supplying essential sources?.6. School managers usually fulfil their role of ?managing programme applications and education.7. School managers usually fulfil their role of ?enabling career development of teachers as well as his / her career development?.8. School managers usually fulfil their role of ?inspecting, assessing and evaluating?.9. School managers usually fulfil their role of ?designing and organizing education activities?.10. The most frequent roles school managers fulfil among educational leadership roles teachers anticipate from them for the implementation of elementary curriculums are the roles of ?creating a physical environment and supplying essential sources?.11. The least frequent roles school managers fulfil among educational leadership roles teachers anticipate from them for the implementation of elementary curriculums are the roles of ?inspecting, assessing and evaluating?.12. The frequency of occurrence for roles and lower dimensions is never ?always? alone.13. The opinions of teachers regarding school managers? educational leadership roles in terms of implementation of elementary curriculums do not differ depending upon ?their gender, their seniority of profession, the school they graduate from, their term of service in school they have served, the period they work together with the same manager, whether they are class or branch teacher, whether they recognize themselves as competent in elementary curriculums?.Keywords: Elementary curriculums, roles of school managers, implementation of curriculums
