The relationship between the level of teachers? participation to decision-making process and the level of organizational commitment

This research has been performed in order to determine the relationship between primary school teachers? participation level to decision-making process and their organizational commitment level. Working group of research includes primary school teachers who are on duty in 45 public schools of Ankara Province Sincan District in 2008-2009 education periods. The research has been carried out with 321 teachers who are selected from the schools of Sincan?s six different education regions with the method of stratified sampling. Literature research has been made about the subject and the theoretical part has been formed. The research has been done in general scanning model.Two different Likert type scales have been used as data collecting tool. The participation to decisions scale, which has been used to determine the level of teachers? participation to decision-making process, has been developed after related literature research has been performed; Organizational Commitment Scale (Allan and Meyer,1997), which was translated and adapted into Turkish by Boylu, Pelit and Güçer(2007), has been used to determine the level of organizational commitment of teachers. The datas which were obtained by data collection tools were transferred to SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) programme and statistical analysis have been done. Frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, t-test, analysis of variance, correlation and regression analysis have been used in the analysis of datas.According to the research findings; the level of teachers? participation to the decision-making process and their level of organizational commitment doesn?t show a significant difference according to their gender, educational status, branch and seniority in general. However, according to their branches; the level of branch teachers? participation to decisions which are about education and according to their seniority; the level of teachers? emotional commitment who have more seniority was found more than the other teachers. Furthermore it has been interpreted according to correlation statistics that; whether there is a meaningful relationship between the level of teachers? participation to decision- making process and the level of their organizational commitment and according to regression statistics that; whether the level of teachers? participation to decision-making process is the estimator of their organizational commitment. According to the results; it has been found a positive, meaningful relationship between the the level of teachers? participation to decision-making process and the level of their organizational commitment. Furthermore; participation to decision-making process variable?s estimator for the organizational commitment variable has been found meaningful. To sum up, it is concluded that; when the the level of teachers? participation to decision-making process increases, their organizational commitment increases too.
