Investigation of accountability in school counseling

Accountability has a very important place in today's world and especially in policies regarding the education system. Accountability systems, which are correctly linked to education and operated by using the right mechanisms, play a major role in increasing the success, closing the lack of success and ensuring a solid structure. Accountability in general terms includes being able to explain and take the responsibility of an action taken, for what purpose and for what purpose any work is done. Based on all these, the purpose of this study is to examine the views of school counselors on accountability. The descriptive survey model was used in the research. The study group of the research consists of 60 school psychological counselors working in schools in various provinces. While collecting the data, a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher and consisting of eight questions in total was used. The interviews, which were planned to be held face to face under normal conditions, were carried out by phone due to the coronavirus epidemic affecting the whole world. In this study, which used a phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research designs, the analysis of the data was made by using content analysis and descriptive analysis by analyzing the answers given to the questions. Looking at the results of the research, the participants defined accountability as giving more information and the majority stated that accountability is necessary; they evaluated accountability positively in terms of school psychological counseling and gave the most concretizing answer as justification; they interpret accountability as important for the guidance and counseling field; evaluate their meetings or meetings, seminars, statistics keeping or reporting procedures, data entries into the e-guidance module within the scope of accountability; evaluated that the e-guidance module contributed to accountability; they reported more to be accountable after implementing the activities in the comprehensive guidance and counseling program; they used the methods of evaluation / reporting, recording and entering data into the e-guidance module regarding the most commonly used ways, activities, actions or methods related to accountability in school; the results are that an accountable school psychological counselor should have a strong communication quality.
