The relationship between teachers' views on perception management practices of school administrators and their emotional commitment

The main purpose of the research is; to examine the relationship between perception management practices carried out by school managers in the dimensions of organizational reputation, identity and image, and teachers' emotional commitment. In the research, mixed research method in which qualitative and quantitative analyzes is used together and sequential explanatory design within the scope of this method was used. The working universe of the research consists of teachers working in the province of Elazig in the 2020-2021 academic years. "Organizational Reputation Building Scale", "Organizational Identity Building Scale", "Organizational Image Building Scale" developed by the researcher and "Emotional Commitment Scale" developed by Meyer, Allen and Smith in 1993 were used as quantitative data collection tools. As a qualitative data collection tool, a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used. In the research, structural equation model was created in order to determine the relationship between the perception management practices carried out by school administrators in the dimensions of organizational reputation, identity, image and the emotional commitment of teachers. As a result of the model, it was found that the perception management practices of school managers in the dimensions of organizational identity and organizational reputation are directly related to the emotional commitment levels of teachers; It has been determined that the relationship between the practices carried out in the organizational image dimension and the emotional commitment of the teachers is formed by the mediation effect of the organizational identity dimension. Independent groups t-test and one-way analysis of variance were performed in order to determine the effects of the demographic variables on the dependent and independent variables. As a result of these analyzes, it was determined that the level of opinion and emotional commitment of the teachers working in primary and secondary schools regarding the dimensions of organizational reputation, identity and image were higher than the other groups, and the emotional commitment levels of male teachers were higher than female teachers. In addition, when examined in terms of the variable of seniority, it was determined that teachers with 6-10 years of duty had a low average in all dimensions compared to other groups. As a result of the qualitative research, it was determined that the studies carried out on organizational image were not directly related to the emotional commitment of teachers, since they were generally carried out for external stakeholders. In addition, it was concluded that female teachers had a lower level of emotional commitment than male teachers due to their family responsibilities, and teachers working in secondary and secondary schools had a low average in all dimensions due to their intense work schedule and crowded working environment. Finally, it has been determined that teachers with 6-10 years of duty have low averages in all dimensions due to reasons such as financial problems and not meeting professional expectations.
