Abstract (EN)

In this research, it is aimed to examine the values of school administrators in terms of various demographical variables and to reveal a concrete finding in relation with this issue. The research is comprised of five main chapters, i.e. Introduction, Literature Review, Method, Findings, Discussion and Conclusion and Recommendations. The research universe is comprised of 90 school administrators employed in state schools in Pendik District, Istanbul Province. 74 of these administrators are male and 16 of them are woman. 10 of the research participants are employed as school principal, 8 of the same are employed as deputy headmaster, 56 of the same are employed as assistant principal and 16 of the same are employed as field chief in vocational schools. Survey model is used in the research. Also, this research includes personal information form for collecting demographical variables and "Action Values Scale". The concepts of helpfulness, showing respect, self-control and self-assessment are discussed as the sub-sections of this scale. Values of school administrators are examined in terms of various demographical variables. As a result of this research, it is determined that the values of school administrators do not vary according to demographical variables and that their value judgements are at high level. It is determined that the "helpfulness" level of the administrators participated to the research is (4.104+-0,430), that the level of "showing respect" of the same is (3,845+-0,416), that the "self-control" level of the same is (3,730+-0,403), that the "self-assessment" level of the same is (3,730+-0,403) and that the level of "general values in action" of the same is (3,885+-0,377). As may be seen from these data, it is observed that the values of the administrators are at a high level in general. As a result of the this research, it may be emphasized that the administrators are comprised of individuals, who are helpful towards the teachers and students, who show respect to the same and who have high level of self-control and value in action and whose self-assessment levels are at moderate level. As a result of the one-way variance analysis (Anova) that was performed to determine whether the average of the self-assessment scores of the administrators participated to the research show any significant difference or not, the difference between group averages is found as significant statistically (F=3,215; p=0.027<0.05). Complementary post-hoc analysis was performed to determine the sources of such differences. It is determined that the self-assessment scores of the assistant principals (3,246 ± 0,613) are higher than the self-assessment scores of deputy headmasters (2,625 ± 0,551). It is determined that the self-assessment scores of the field chiefs in vocational schools (3,469 ± 0,730) are higher than the self-assessment scores of the deputy headmasters (2,625 ± 0,551).
