Abstract (EN)
This study, which aims to examine the relationship between school academic optimism level and student resistance behaviors in secondary education institutions, was designed as a quantitative research in the relational survey model. The population of the study consists of teachers working in secondary education institutions in the central districts of Mersin province (Akdeniz, Toroslar, Yenişehir, Mezitli) in the 2023-2024 academic year. Stratified sampling method was used to determine the sample. The strata were determined as general high schools and vocational high schools and the sample was selected among them. The sample consists of 394 branch teachers working in 40 schools, 10 schools in each district, and volunteering to participate. "School Academic Optimism Scale (SAOS)" and 'Student Resistance Behavior Scale Teacher Form (SRBS)' and a Personal Information Form developed by the researcher were used as data collection tools. SPSS statistical program was used for data analysis. As a result of the research, the academic optimism level of secondary education institutions is generally low, there is no statistically significant difference between teachers' views on the academic optimism level of the school according to marital status and the faculty they graduated from, female teachers' perceptions of the academic optimism level of the school are more negative than male teachers, Among all branches, the teachers who perceived the school's academic optimism level more positively in the Self-Efficacy dimension of the school's academic optimism level were the teachers who taught skills and arts courses, teachers with 11-15 years of service perceived the school's academic optimism level as the highest in the Self-Efficacy dimension in a statistically significant way; Confidence, academic emphasis and academic optimism were higher in Anatolian and science high schools and self-efficacy was higher in vocational high schools. As the perception towards student achievement increased positively, the perception towards the academic optimism of the school also changed positively. There is no significant difference in the frequency of teachers' encountering resistance behaviors according to the variables of gender, marital status, graduated faculty, branch, and teaching type of the school, and teachers working in science high schools and vocational high schools generally encounter student resistance behaviors less, It was found that student resistance behaviors were exhibited more in classes where the perception of student achievement was perceived to be very weak, there was a moderate, negative, significant relationship between the academic optimism levels of schools and student resistance behaviors, and as the academic optimism level of schools increased, student resistance behaviors decreased.
