Interrogatives of pre-thirteenth century Turkish

In this work, interrogative words in the literary language of Turkish from its beginning up to the thirteent century; their functions in and out of questions they obtain by means of various sentence structures and functions as word-type and element of sentence have been examined. The literary language of turkish, from its beginning to 13th. century includes the text of Orchon, old Uighur and Karakha Turkish.In the work, most of the works, written (or translated) in the meintoned period, have been evaluated in respect of the interrogative words.The material used in the work-though the Works of that period are not wholly present-consists of the texts highly representing the Orchon, Uighur and Karakhan periods of old Turkish in the aspects of the language qualities.In the entry part of the thesis, illustrative information about the subject, aim and the style of the work have been given. In order to form a theorical basis of the work, the concept of question; its place and importance in various sciences; its perception in universal linguistics; and question structures in respects of historical and modern Turkish linguistics have been dealt with in detail. In this part Turkish literary language from its beginning to the 13th century is also dealt with,in order for a historical point of view to be composed and some leading information about the texts examined in the work has been given.The part with the title question words in pre-thirteenth century Turkish constitues the main part of the thesis in this part question words words have been lined up in an alphabetical order and then each word has been examined in the three sub-parts as meaning qualities wordtype and element of sentence. First of all, the ideas-of some researches about the origin and use of each word have been lined up; and the frequency of usage of the word in texts examined has been stated. Afterwards, five examples from everytext for every sub-tittle were given. When examples were more than five the places of other examples were shown.Second part is tittled as meaning properties of question words. In this part, functions and meaning properties of interrogative words determined in Turkish texts (Orchon, old uighur, Qarakhanid Turkish) have been dealth with in detail.In the third part of the work tittled as evaluation and result question word determined in pre-thirteenth century Turkish literary language formation ways of new question words, the periodical uses of the words, frequency of uses , general and special to periods, have been given under the light of the information obtained from other parts. Comments on these uses have been included, and the results reached as words type and element of sentence have been deal with. Meanings generally appearing in question words have also been mentioned and uses and exeptions about this have been evaluated.
