Abstract (EN)

Cancer is a chronic process that is becoming increasingly wide spread. Today, increasing the psychological resilience of patients has become very important in this process. Defining the relationship with metacognition, which is effective in enhancing psychological resilience, will be guiding in this context. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between metacognition and psychological resilience in oncology patients. The study universe consisted of patients receiving treatment at the Medical Oncology Department of SANKO University Private Sani Konukoğlu Hospital. The data were collected using a personal information form, Brief Psychological Resilience Scale (BPSS), and Metacognition Questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30). Data were gathered through face-to-face interviews. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and multiple linear regression analysis were used for statistical analyses. The mean age of the participants was determined to be 55,9 ± 14,5 years. It was established that 53,9% of the participants were female and 46,1% were male. Lung cancer was found to be the most common cancer type, with a rate of 27,0%, and breast cancer was the second most common, with a rate of 23,5%. The participants' BPSS mean score was 18,67 ± 6,4, and the MCQ-30 mean score was 72,6 ± 1.6. The MCQ-30 Cognitive Awareness sub-dimension had the highest score of 17,1 ± 3,3 while the Cognitive Confidence sub-dimension had the lowest score of 12,1 ± 5,4. A strong negative correlation was found between the main problem statement of the study, MCQ-30, and BPSS (r = -0,697). Increasing levels of metacognition among participants indicate a decrease in their psychological resilience. In line with the study results, it was suggested that interventional studies could be planned to support the psychological resilience of patients by improving their meta cognition.
