Impact of organizational and individual stress sources on job satisfaction: A study on air traffic controllers

VI ABSTRACT The main objective of this study is to examine impact of stress sourcess on the job satisfaction of air traffic controllers. In this sense, in the first section of the study, definition of stress, its relationships with related concepts, its signs and sources of stress have been examined. Sources of stress have been divided into two broad categories: individual and organizational. In the second section of the study, concept and theories of job satisfaction, variables of job satisfaction and the impact of stress on job satisfaction have been examined. In the third section, using the framework of the developed model, the impact of two sources of stress on the job satisfaction for air traffic controllers is aimed to be measured. Survey research has been applied at four airports of the State Airport Organization. Total percentage of the sample consisted of 30,39% of air traffic controllers that currently work at Turkish airports. In analysing hypoteses of the study; correlation, Mest and multiple-regression analysis have been used. According to findings of this study, organizational and individual stress sources do not have a significant impact on job satisfaction. Among three organizational stress sources, it's found out that, only administrative stress sources has a significant impact on the job satisfaction of controllers in a negative way. Another finding is that physical and job-related stress sources do not have any impact on job satisfaction. Under the light of these findings, the main conclusion is that the principal reason that reduces controllers' job satisfaction is not job-related factors but certain administrative stress factors.
