Abstract (EN)
The fundamental elements that make up a language are words, word groups, and sentences. While the number of words in a language is limited, the word groups and sentences that can be formed with words are limitless. Therefore, word groups contribute significantly to narrative. Word groups, which play a significant role in syntax, are crucial linguistic units for expressing feelings and thoughts that cannot be expressed in single words, and for enriching narrative. Studies on syntax are important both for demonstrating the richness of Turkish expression and for understanding the author's language and style. The novel, a narrative-based literary text, is one of the literary genres that most effectively reveals the characteristics of language, as well as the author's language and style. In this study, Orhan Kemal's novel "On Fertile Lands" is examined in terms of syntax within the context of author, work, and style. Due to Orhan Kemal's mastery of language use, a representative of social realism in Turkish literature, it was deemed appropriate to examine this work in terms of syntax. The analysis attempts to reveal the diversity of word groups in the work and the rich and unique structure of the Turkish language. Our study consists of three sections. The first section provides information on Orhan Kemal's life, literary personality, works, the relevant work, and the awards he received. The second section outlines researchers' views on the definition, naming, and classification of word groups and discusses studies conducted on word groups. The study is based on the works titled "Turkish Syntax" by Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Özkan, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Toker, and Prof. Dr. Ufuk Deniz Aşcı. The third section examines the sentences and word groups used in the work. The concluding section provides a detailed assessment of the findings we have identified regarding the work's syntax, the author's language, and style. We hope that this study, designed to add to the body of studies demonstrating the richness of Turkish expression, will contribute to future studies on syntax.
