Orhan Kemal dictionary

Dictionaries, which provide information about the vocabulary of one or more languages, have been prepared in different types for various purposes and needs from past to present. Author dictionaries, one of these types, play an important role in illuminating an author's vocabulary, his view of life, his relationship with the period he lived in, his style, and his cultural background. These dictionaries also have the potential to add new lexical units to general dictionaries and to make additions in terms of meaning and witnesses. In this study, in line with the importance of author lexicography, an author dictionary study has been carried out based on 41 works of Orhan Kemal, one of the important names of Turkish literature, in the novel and short story genres. The study consists of five chapters. In the first part, information about the subject, purpose, importance and limitations of the study is given, while in the second part, theoretical explanations about lexicography and dictionary and information about Orhan Kemal's life and works are given. In the third chapter, the population and method of the study and information about the use of dictionaries are given. The fourth section, which forms the basis of the study, includes dictionary and index studies. The dictionary includes the meaning, origin, type, work and page number of the word and citation. The idioms, proverbs and phrases which are considered as intra-items are added to the end of the relevant word based on their first words. Headings and intra-article elements and some important issues are presented to the readers in the index section. In the last section, the conclusion and suggestions section, some conclusions are reached about Orhan Kemal's vocabulary with various statistical data and some suggestions are made about the author's lexicography.
