The investigation of emphatical skills of the nurses working in orthopaedics and physical therapy wards (sample of Trabzon Province, Yavuz Selim Osteoid Diseases and Rehabilitation Hospital)

Prof. Dr. Nilgün ULUTAŞDEMİR 2018, 53 (Pages), 15 (Appendix Pages) This descriptive study has been aimed to evaluate empathical skills and tendencies of the nurses working in orthopaedics and physical therapy wards. The universe of the study consists of 125 working in orthopaedics and physical therapy wards in Trabzon Yavuz Selim Osteoid Diseasesand Rehabilitation Hospital. However, the final study sample includes 111 actively working nurses who agreed to participale in the study. The data of the study have been collected using socio-demographic and Professional information form, Emphatical Tendency Scale (ETS) and Emphatical Skills Scale (ESS) under direct observation. The data have been analyzed using t- test, one-way ANOVA and correlation. %91.9 (n=102) of the participants were female and %8.1 were male.The average age of the participants was 39.4±6.48. İt was found that the emphatical skills score of those nurses who have been working for 24 years and over were higher than the others (KW=4.3, p=0.01). İt was also found that the emphatical skills mean scores of the nurses who had training on emphatical skills werw higher than the others (t=0.9, p=0.04). İn this study, it was determined that the emphatical skills and tendencies of the participants werw relatively low. Keywords: Nursing, Empathic Tendency, Empathic Skill.
