The history of the society that a person lives in, socialstructure, cultural events and improving technology effects the public culture'scome into being. There areseveral periods in the people's lives. The mostimportant period is the "birth period" which gains the person into that society.In the birth period which is the transition period, the person prepares himselfinto his new life with several customs and beliefs. In Osmaniye and its area,some several practices are carried out in the birth perod. The birth period isvery important because it's the begining of the other periods. With theapplications that started pre-birth; an healthy birth and an heal thy survival areaimed. The 40-day period after the child's birth is given much moreimportance. In this period, which is believed as the mother and the baby aren'tprotected, several precautions are taken to avoid them from danger. Someapplications which are done in the birth period, carries magical peculiarities,however, other applications carries religious peculiarities. But some of theapplications carries either magical or religious peculiarities. In the publicculture of Osmaniye and its area, ıslamic religion of Çukurova with its athousand-yeared culture has the west culture effects with the improvingtechnology and the westernization. In Osmaniye's public culture the signs andthe colorfulness can be seen in the birth period, known as the transitionperiod in which the customs and the beliefs are applied into.Key words: Birth, Blief, Cild, Folklore
