Abstract (EN)
Ottoman History undoubtedly has a very important point in World History. Examining the relations with other states in the period in which it lived, on the other hand, is conducive to the understanding of our history and the entry of new information into our repertoire by looking at the events from different sources. For this reason, with this thesis, an evaluation was made on the political and diplomatic relations of the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Italy between 1870 and 1909, starting with the Italian city-states with which the Ottoman Empire was in constant communication from the first years. There are some reasons for choosing this topic. First, the political and diplomatic relations with the Ottoman Empire remained in the background since the time when the Kingdom of Italy unified in 1870. This period, which took place from the period when Italy united until the Tripoli War, is considered extremely important for both Ottoman and Italian histories. Secondly, it is necessary to clarify the Ottoman and eastern policy, which was implemented with some political and economic considerations, since the Kingdom of Italy was a little behind compared to other European States. These policies were evaluated regionally in chronological terms. The third is to try to catch a clue about the social structure of that period by transferring the events between the local authorities and representatives (Consuls or Şehbenders) in the cities where the two countries have representatives. Therefore, in this study, the political and diplomatic relations between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Italy between 1870 and 1909 were evaluated in the light of the sources of both countries and it was aimed to contribute to the written works in this field.
