Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted methodologically in order to evaluate the self-care of patients with stoma and to contribute to the nursing literature of the measuring tool. The study was carried out in Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Health Practice and Research Center and Tekirdag Dr. Ismail Fehmi Cumalıoğlu City Hospital between September 2020-January 2021. While the research population was composed of individuals with colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy who applied for polyclinic control within this period; The sample consisted of 253 individuals with stoma who agreed to participate in the study. "Ostomy Individual Information Form" with 11 items and "Ostomy Self Care Index" with 32 items were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data; descriptive statistics, language and content validity, confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency and invariance against time methods were used. Content validity index was found as 0.99. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, fit indices are at the desired level; the items had factor loads between 0.575 and 0.964, and all items were in eight sub-dimensions, consistent with the original scale. As in the original version of the scale, the 18th item, which questioned the complications of stoma individuals and was not statistically significant, was not included in the analysis and was accepted as additional. In the internal consistency analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient is 0.949 for the whole scale; It was concluded that the subscales varied between 0.684 and 0.945. Test-retest method was used for invariance against time and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was found to be between 0.837 and 0.988 for scale items. As a result; Ostomy Self Care Index is similar to the original scale; Valid and reliable in Turkish language; It was determined that it is an adequate measurement tool for evaluating the self-care of individuals with stoma in Turkish society.
