Cross-cultural comparison of financial literacy levels of hotel employees

Globalization and technological developments have brought the country's economies to a much more important state. Globalization has increased the communication of individuals and therefore countries with each other. At the same time, the freedom to trade has also increased. With this freedom, the necessity of using and knowing many concepts in the field of finance has arisen. For such reasons, financial literacy is now considered as an indispensable concept in today's world. Recently, it is considered that the importance of the concept of financial literacy in finance literature has increased. The importance of financial literacy for the individual comes into the prominance much more today. For this reason, financial literacy helps individuals to manage their own financial situation and to use their financial skills in their daily life. Today, it can be said that being financially literate has become a necessity. This thesis was carried out to measure the financial literacy levels of actively working employees in five-star hotels operating in Turkey and Croatia. Within the scope of the study, it was aimed to measure the financial literacy levels of different nationalities and to determine their intercultural differences. A total of 424 valid questionnaires were obtained from both nationalities. In the study, the correlations between the demographic characteristics of the participants and their financial literacy levels were examined. According to the research findings, it is possible to say that there is a difference in financial literacy levels of hotel employees from both nationalities. Significant correlations were found between the participants' gender, marital status, education level, financial literacy in general, and their financial literacy levels. On the other hand, in the study, no significant correlation was found between the age of the participants, the department they work in the hotel, their bank accounts and their financial literacy levels. The results of the findings are discussed in the study.
