Abdülhamid Süleyman Çolpan, one of the leading figures of contemporary Uzbek literature, is an important intellectual who reflects the national consciousness and cultural identity of the Uzbek people with his works in the genres of poetry, theatre and novel. The novel tells the story of the Uzbek people's stance against colonialism, the search for identity and the struggle for freedom in the conditions of the oppression period by combining the lives of individuals with the general structure of society. The protagonist Zebinisahan is a character representing the individuals sacrificed by the system. The transformation in the inner world of Miryakub, one of the important characters of the work, is a reflection of the changes aimed by the idea of Jadidism in society. The novel is an important narrative that reveals the political and cultural atmosphere of the past period. Çolpan's literary language and symbolic narration make the novel not only a fiction but also an important document reflecting the social order and administrative relations of the period.
