Abstract (EN)
This study has been under taken to evaluate the affects of healthy life behaviours on weight loss for adult females attending a weight loss consultancy center. The participants of study covered 110 adult women who voluntarily participated in the study while attending a weight loss consultancy center in Ümitköy district of Ankara between1 December 2015 and 1 January 2016. The population constitutes of non-pregnant women between 20-64 ages who regularly attended their follow-ups. The participants' personal characteristics and dietary habits were inquired with a questionnaire they filled in; also their antropometric measurements were done and then their body compositions have been determined with Bioelectric Impedans Analysis (BIA). The participants' dietary habit status were determined by feed frequency questionnaire form and their physical activity levels were evaluated by International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short form. Healthy Lifesytle Behaviors Scale (HLSB II) consisting of 52 questions has been applied to the participants to determine their healthy life behaviours. One month after the initial appointment, the antropometric measurements of the participants were repeated to determine their weight loss amounts. The mean age of participants was 36,19 ± 10,06 years. According to the initial measurement, the mean weight of the participants was 75,62±13,52 kg, the mean of their body mass index (BMI) was 28,59±5,40 kg/m², the mean of their body fat index was 0,37±0,06, the mean of their waist to hip ratio was 79±0,08 and the mean of their waist to height ratio was 0,54±0,08. The difference between the initial measurements and the following one was found to be statistically significant (p<0,05). The participants' mean total score in HLSB II was determined as 129,47±26,77 and the lowest score was 71 while the highest score was 193. When the mean score of subscale groups were sorted in descending order, it has been observed the rankings were as follows: self-actualization (26,91±4,26), inter-support among individuals (26,77±34,32), diet (22,08±4,36), health consciousness (19,05±4,31), stress management (18,83±4,16) and exercise (15,83±5,36). It was observed that the relationship between age, education level, occupation, frequency of check-ups, smoking, frequency of eating out and thoughts about healthy diet and the average of scores in HLSB II and nutrition subscale were statistically significant (p<0,05). There was not relationship between physically inactive, minimally active, very active individuals and the mean score of HLBS II (p>0,05). There was not also statistically significant relationship between the weight difference of participants' initial and following measurement and their demographic characteristics, the existence of diagnosed illnesses, habits for skipping meals and consumption of snack meal (p>0,05). The relationship between weight loss percentage and waist to hip ratios were determined as statistically significant (p<0,05). There was not statistically significant relationships between the weight loss percentage and HLSB II scores (p>0,05). Consequently, it has been observed that relying on the healthy life behaviours does not affect the individuals'weight loss amounts. It should be emphasized the importance of healthy life behaviours and also its application needs to be supported among individuals'daily lives.
