A comparison between the level of locus of conscious and some personal charactheristics of the students who are at the age of 16-18 and being educated in private schoolsIn this study, we have researched the relationship between the spesific personalities of the students? in the private schools and locus of control. The schools which operate through the MOE curriculum are classified as Formal Schools, in Turkish Education System.The Locus of control scale used in this study has been developed by Rotter and meets a very important need for the activities in this area. İhsan Dağ has applied the Rotter locus of control scale. Moreover, in this study adjective scanning list of Savran (1993) was used for evaluating some certain characteristics of personality.This research was realized in the second term 2007?2008 education year, on a sample group of 400 people. 168 of them were girls and 232 were boys. All of the students were from the private schools around Avcılar and Beylikdüzü. 272 of the students are from science branch, 128 of them are from equal weighted branch. Their ages are between 16?18.In this study, the results of the analysis which were held to determine whether the sub dimension points of the adjective scanning list and total points of Rotter locus of control scale ,for the students in research group differ from each other considerably in terms of demographic features (sex,department, perceived attitude of parents, perceived earnings level and kind of locus of control).In this study the locus of control has been held profoundly considering concepts of personality and the factors affecting personality. We have also researched the approaches concerning locus of control, features of personality according to locus of control(types of personality as internal and external controlled).We have also dealt with the factors affectin the locus of control, parents?attitudes on child care, parents? effect on locus of control and child,the socio-economical level of the family and its importance, working mother and her effect on the child.It has also undertaken the studies on locus of control. (Both in Turkey and abroad.)In order to reach the expected results the concept of personality has firstly been handled as well as the definition of personality, the phenomena of ego, the value of ego, the respect of ego, the needs and fears of the teenager, the features of personality and the factors affecting personality.In this research, it is not neglected that human being is not only a social and physicological creature, but also it has physological aspects. In order to prove this, the effects genetic and biological factors to the development of personality are considered, and it is showed that man is a bio-physco-social creature.Also, the cultural factors are pointed out in the research. It is well-known that, our parents, who are regarded as or first teachers, have a great impact on our personalities. According to some physological approaches, personality is composed in the ages of 0-5.The behaviours of parents are examined as; democratic parents behaviour, extremely protectionist parental beaviour and extremely repressive parental behaviours.This research dealt with adjective scanning list, diversity analysis according to demographic varieties, the comparison of locus of control, sexual comparisons, section comparisons and parental behaviours. The results and comments are dealt with in details.Furthermore, in this research, rotter ?sexual comparisons , rotter- section comparisons, rotter ? parental behaviour comparisons, rotter- income comparisons and ROTTER- ACL sub dimension relation analysis took place.Key Words: Locus of control, personality characteristics and private schools.
