Abstract (EN)
The goal of this study is to test the "Psychological Hardiness Model", which affects the individuals' subjektive well being. A total of 395 students, which consist of 222 females and 173 males who are studying at the Elementary Mathematics Teaching, Geography Teaching, French Teaching, Social Sciences Teaching, Computer and Training Technologies Training Teaching at the Gazi University Faculty of Education at the 2002 - 2003 educational year participated to the study. The Cognitive Appraisal Scale was applied to the students in order to measure their cognitive appraisal of stress, the Psychological Hardiness Scale for determining their psychological hardiness, the Coping Ways Scale for determining their reactions to a stressful situation, and the Self Esteem Scale, Continuous Anxiety Inventory and Life Fulfillment Scale for measuring their subjektive well being. The SSPS 11.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) and LISREL 8.30 (Linear Structural Equation Models), which is a structural equations model program, was used for the analysis of the collected data. The results obtained from the research may be summarized as: 1. The cognitive appraisal of stressful life conditions obliquely affects subjektive well-being. 2. Coping with stressful life conditions obliquely affects subjektive well-being 3. The psychological hardiness personal attribute obliquely affects subjektive well-being with the help of cognitive appraisal and coping. 4. The data collected from the study comply with the model. n
