Abstract (EN)

Objective: To determine the promising hybrid combinations in the population created to increase the ginning out-turn in cotton and to evaluate the performance versus parents were aimed. Material and Methods: The seven multiparental advanced breeding lines were crossed with two parents having high ginning out-turn (Esperya and Genotip-I), and 14 F1 hybrid combinations were generated. The hybrid combinations and their parents were sown at Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replications. The average of hybrid combinations for observed characters was compared with check variety, varieties with high ginning out-turn and best variety by contrast method. Also, the useful heterosis was estimated. Results: The average of hybrid combinations for ginning out-turn were found to be significantly better than that of their parents. The seed cotton yield per plant of hybrid combinations was significantly lower than the check variety (Gloria) and best parent (Esperya). The comparisons to the best variety showed that the hybrid combinations produced shorter, coarse and weak fibers. Conclusion: It was concluded that hybrid combinations, [(ST-468 x Claudia) x (Gloria x Carisma)] x Esperya with high yielding and medium-high ginning out-turn, [(Gloria x Flash) x (Gloria x Carisma)] x Genotip-I and [(Carisma x Carmen) x (Gloria x Flash)] x Genotip-I with medium-high yielding and high ginning out-turn should be better to evaluate in advanced generations. Keywords: Ginning out-turn, advanced lines, contrast, useful heterosis
