Abstract (EN)
Intensive Care Units are the most stressful, difficult to manage, costly units in the healthcare field worldwide, where life expectancy as well as mortality and morbidity are high. For this reason, scoring systems have been developed taking into account situations such as patient mortality, length of stay in intensive care, treatments to be applied, management of stress factors and minimizing these factors. Sequential Organ Failure Assessment Score (SOFA) is one of these scoring systems. In our study, it has been shown that the COVID infection ended with at least two negative COVID-PCR tests in patients receiving inpatient treatment in Pandemic Intensive Care clinics during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, postCOVID patients who continued to need intensive care and were therefore transferred to the Internal Intensive Care clinic for the continuation of their treatment were included as the study group. A control group was created from randomly selected patients who were hospitalized in Internal Intensive Care Unit for nonCOVID reasons. It was aimed to evaluate the prediction of mortality by recording the SOFA score of the patients on the first day they were transferred to the Internal Intensive Care clinic. The relationship between SOFA scores calculated for each group and patient survival was evaluated and the groups were compared with each other. It was found that the age and gender distributions of the patients participating in the study were similar according to the groups, the mortality rate was 67% in the study group and 60% in the control group, and the average SOFA score in both groups was statistically significantly higher in the deceased patients than in the surviving patients. It was also found that both the SOFA score and the expected mortality rate value were strong parameters in indicating mortality. In conclusion; While the SOFA Score was found to be a strong parameter in predicting mortality as well as organ failure, the similar power of the SOFA score in predicting mortality in both groups shows that it is not superior in predicting mortality for Pandemic Intensive Care Units and Internal Intensive Care Units.
