Determining perfusionists' perceptions of patient safety and culture

Quality in healthcare is extremely important. One of the most important elements to ensure quality is patient safety. Quality in health services has gradually increased the importance of patient safety. Patient safety aims to prevent health service related errors and to reduce the damage caused by these errors. Any situation that will harm the safety of the patient during the treatment or service given to the patient can lead to irreversible health problems in terms of human health and even the death of the patient. This is why healthcare professionals' perceptions of patient safety culture and healthcare institutions' patient safety culture directly affect service quality and gain value in terms of human health. In our country, many studies on patient safety have been carried out on healthcare professionals, but no study on perfusionists has been found. When their work areas are evaluated, it is claimed that the important mistakes of perfusionists who do a very serious job are life-threatening. If we need to categorize the events that threaten patient safety; We can collect them under 3 main headings as error, accident and complication. The universe of the research was determined as perfusionists working in public and private hospitals in Turkey. The sample of the study consisted of 262 perfusionists who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study between 15.01.2022 and 31.01.2022.
