Effect of social support and anxiety on prenatal attachment in pregnant diagnosed preeklampsia

Abstract (EN)

This study was performed to determine the effect of anxiety and social support on prenatal attachment in pregnant diagnosed preeklampsia. This study was performed as a descriptive, with a case-control group in the obstetrics outpatient and outpatient clinics of two hospitals in Adana city center between September 2015-August 2016. The population of the study included hospitalized pregnant women diagnosed preeklampsia in obstetrics clinics and pregnant women who were visiting for routine check-up and/or examination in the outpatient obstetric clinics. The sample included a total of 312 (101 cases, 212 controls) pregnant women who met the fitted criteria of the study and accepted to participate in the study. Collection of the data pregnant women were performed using "Personal Information Form", "Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale (MPSSS)", "State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)" and "Prenatal Attachment Inventory (PAI)". The mean of total score MPSSS was determine in case group of pregnant women who diagnosed preeklampsia was 69,14±11,20, in control group was 71,93±10,10 and which indicates a statistically significant difference between groups (p<0.05). The mean of total score SAI was found in case group of pregnant women was 48,46±2,13, in control group was 39,63±9,67 and a statistically significant difference was found between groups (p<0.05). The mean of total score TAI was detected in case group of pregnant women was 41,45±9,98, in control group was 42,20±9,12 and a statistically insignificant difference was found between groups (p>0.05). The mean of total score PAI was determined in case group of pregnant women was 62,31±10,19, in control group was 62,13±11,28 and a statistically insignificant difference were detected between groups (p>0.05). A statistically significant positive correlation was detected between MPSSS and subscales and PAI in case and control groups (p<0.05). A statistically significant correlation was no detected between SAI and TAI and PAI in case and control groups (p>0.05). It was found social support level in case of pregnant women who diagnosed preeklampsia lower than control group, the state anxiety was higher and the prenatal bonding level was similar in this study. It is recommended that midwives and nurses should assess social support, anxiety and prenatal attachment levels of pregnant women diagnosed preeklampsia
