Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Objective:With this cross-sectional study, it was aimed to determine the aggressive attitude levels of premenstrual adolescents, which is thought to have not been examined in the literature, and to determine its relationship with some sociodemographic and anthropometric characteristics. Material and Method:This study was carried out with 1450 adolescents aged 12-18 years who applied to Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Pediatric Adolescent Polyclinic between 01.11.2021 and 15.05.2022 and voluntarily accepted to participate in the study. In our study, Premenstrual Syndrome Scale (PMS) and Buss-Perry Aggression Scale used. Results:The mean age of the adolescents participating in the study was 15.8 ± 2.0 years, and all of them were menstruating. Presence of PMS was found in all adolescents. It was determined that there is a statistically significant relationship between PMS and aggression behavior and Body Mass Index (BMI) of adolescents (p<0.001). It was found that as the body weight of adolescents increased, PMS and aggression levels increased. It was found that as the PMS score level increased, physical aggression, hostility, anger and verbal aggression gradually increased and this increase was statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion:This study is the first large sample study in Turkey to examine the relationship between PMS in adolescence and aggressive attitude, and the data obtained support the literature. Understanding the aggressive attitudes and the presence of PMS in this period is important in terms of determining appropriate management strategies. It is thought that reducing stress, balanced diet, regular sleep, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, education and psychological support can prevent aggressive attitudes and provide clinical improvement in PMS.
