Abstract (EN)

Objectives : Proximal femur fractures are great importance especially in elderly patients. This region starts from femoral servikobazal plan and finishes in part up to subtrochanteric, the intramedullary proximal femoral nail applications is increasing day by day and is becoming the first choice in the treatment of these injuries. We applied two different brands of intramedullary nails in patients with proximal femur fractures. We investigated the efficacy of the intramedullary nail and different nail brand if the difference between them. Materials and Methods : In this study, 200 patients who performed proximal femoral nail surgery due to proximal femur fractures were included between September 2010 and June 2015 period in Çukurova University Medical Faculty Hospital. 194 patients were included the study because of post op time over the 6 months. 137 patients reached. We were evaluated the radiologically and functional clinical follow-up of these patients. Results : 76 of the patients operated with PFN-A nail and 118 of them operated with INTERTAN nail in this study. Female/male ratio was determined 94/100. AO fracture classification was used for classification. 52% 31A2, 27% 31A1, 21% 31A3 fracture type was available. 82% were operated with general anesthesia. Postoperative complication rate was observed 15%. Reoperation rate was 4%. Early mortality rate was 15%. The survival probability estimated 68.4% for 4-year. Functionally results found good 66% , excellent 20.1% and did not differ between nail groups about functional. Conclusion : Since the past, the proximal femur fractures surgical treatment was attempt to perform with various implants and because of problems more effective, more successful different implants has been designed in this process. Recently, the intramedullary fixation had been used extensively technique in the daily practice that, an effective treatment method is appropriately made and successful results were obtained in long-term follow In the future, the proximal femoral nail is expected to be available as the first choice in the treatment of this region fractures. Problems encountered in the implementation of this nail and follow analyzed and developed more suitable implants, surgery was envisaged to be more appropriate. Key words : PFN-A, INTERTAN, proximal femur fractures, intramedullary nails
