Abstract (EN)

Complete dentures are an important prosthodontic treatment option for edentulous patients. It is known that some patients are not satisfied with the complete prosthetic treatment and their quality of life decreases. Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) and General Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) surveys are used to evaluate oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the demographic factors, denture experiences, systemic diseases, and oral health-related quality of life and also compare the OHIP-14 and GOHAI measures. In our study, 353 patients who completed prosthetic treatment at Uşak University Faculty of Dentistry; demographic factors such as gender, age, denture experience and systemic diseases and answers of GOHAI and OHIP-14 questionnaires were collected and statistical analysis was performed. GOHAI and OHIP-14 scales were found reliable and high correlation was detected between them. Denture experience has been observed to affect the behavioral effects domain of the GOHAI and the psychological discomfort, social disability and handicap domain of the OHIP-14. It was determined that factors of age, denture experience, physician advice and wearing prostheses at night have an effect on oral health-related quality of life. The relationship between the systemic disease and drug use, only the psychological disorder domain of the OHIP-14 was determined. It was observed that the gender, hypertension and diabetes mellitus had no effect on the oral health-related quality of life. As a result, it has been determined that oral health-related quality of life complete denture wearers is affected by various factors. The GOHAI and OHIP-14 can be counted as effective measures for assessing treatment effects of complete denture therapy.
