Evaluation of problem solving skills, social support perceptions and suicide possibilities of patients hospitalized in the psychiatric clinic

The aim of this study is to determine the problem solving skills, social support perceptions and suicide probabilities of patients hospitalized in psychiatric clinic and to examine the relationship between Dec. The cross-sectional-descriptive study was conducted with inpatients at Manisa Mental Health and Diseases Hospital and a total of 105 inpatients formed the sample of the study. February April 2024-Data were collected between February 2024 and Dec 2024. The Personal Information Form prepared by the researchers, the Problem Solving Inventory (PSI), the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale (MSPSS) and the Suicide Probability Scale (SPS) were used to collect the data. The data were evaluated using the SPSS statistical package program (Version22, Chicago IL, USA). The average total score of the participants' Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale (MSPSS) was 51.73±17.11. The average total score of the Problem Solving Inventory (PCE) was determined as 89.66±25.95, and the average score of the Suicide Probability Scale (IOE) was determined as 73.67±14.01. According to the grouping made according to the presence of suicidal ideation, there is a statistically significant difference between the Dec, IO and PCE scores. The group said that they had suicidal ideation had a lower total score on the BAS, while the total score on the IO and PCE was higher. According to the grouping made according to the suicide attempt status of the participants, it is observed that there is a statistically significant difference in the total IO scores. Lack of problem solving skills and perceived lack of social support in individuals with mental health problems may increase the likelihood of suicide.
