Abstract (EN)

Communication and media technologies are developing rapidly in our age, and these advances affect our daily nutrition and physical activity practices. This research aimed to examine the usage of media tools, nutritional habits and physical activity levels of PTT distribution employees. The study was conducted in January-May 2022 with a total of 243 people, 67 women (27.6%) and 176 men (72.4%), who distributed mail and cargo at the Ankara PTT General Directorate. The survey, which included individuals' nutrition and physical activity habits, was conducted face-to-face on a voluntary basis. The survey form used as a measurement tool includes questions about general health information, nutritional habits, food consumption frequencies, media tools and physical activity, as well as demographic information. Energy, macro and micronutrient intakes were determined. The average age of the individuals was 35.61±8.0 years and 51.4% were of normal body weight. It was determined that 73.3% of individuals skipped lunch and the most common reason for skipping was 'lack of time' (62.0%). The frequency of individuals eating outside every day is 13.2%. 86.6% of women and 92.6% of men consume bread every day. 92.2% of the participants reported that they used the internet regularly, 89.7% reported that they used social media regularly every day, 44.9% reported that they followed doctors and 21.8% dietitians from the media. 21.4% of individuals stated that they wanted to change their habits with healthy nutrition programs. It was determined that as the time spent in the media increased, the consumption of milk and its products decreased and the majority of individuals had sufficient physical activity (93.0%). 88.2% of those with low physical activity status and 92.5% of those with adequate physical activity follow the internet every day. It was found that individuals' eating habits may change and their physical activity levels may be affected depending on the use of media tools. It is thought that it would be beneficial for institution employees to receive consultancy services regarding nutrition, physical and mental health from dietitians and specialist health professionals.
