Abstract (EN)

Aim: Pulmonary Thromboembolism (PTE) is one of the major cardiovascular diseases with high morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis of the disease and accurate prognosis are very important in clinical management. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Profilin-1 in the diagnosis and prognosis of pulmonary thromboembolism. Materials and Methods : This study was carried out between March 2022 and March 2023 on patients who were diagnosed with PTE over the age of 18 and applied to the Emergency Department of Samsun University Samsun Training and Research Hospital, and healthy volunteers with similar sociodemographic characteristics. Results: In the study, 102 people diagnosed with PTE constituted the patient group and 64 healthy volunteers formed the control group. The median serum Profilin-1 level of the patient group was 2878 (124-5001) pg/mL, while the median serum Profilin-1 level of the control group was 579 (125-5001) pg/mL. Serum Profilin-1 level of the patient group was significantly higher than the control group (p<0.001). We found that Profilin-1 levels of 984.46 pg/mL and above have a sensitivity of 76.5% and a specificity of 79.7% in the diagnosis of PTE (AUC: 0.817; CI: 0.750-0.873; p<0.0001). The median serum Profilin-1 level of patients with a mortal course was 5001 (1793,3-5001) pg/mL, while the median serum Profilin-1 level of patients without mortality was 1858 (124-5001) pg/mL. Serum Profilin-1 level of patients who developed mortality was significantly higher than those who did not develop mortality (p<0.001). We found that Profilin-1 levels of 3292.1 pg/mL and above have 90.9% sensitivity and 71.3% specificity in the prognosis of PTE (AUC: 0.861 ; CI: 0.778 - 0.921; p<0.0001). Conclusion: Profilin-1 levels are a useful parameter in the diagnosis and prognosis of pulmonary thromboembolism. Key words: Pulmonary thromboembolism, Profilin-1, emergency room, biomarker
