Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the quasi-experimental study with a pretest and posttest design is to inform patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy about the effect of after discharge and provide training to them via messages from the nurses to determine their life quality. The study was conducted between 26.05.2022-20.12.2022 with a total of 57 patients (29 intervention group and 28 control group) who underwent radical prostatectomy in the urology clinic of Koç University Hospital after written and verbal consent was obtained. The patients in the intervention group were given routine follow-up and discharge training. Additionally, a text message that includes expert opinion was forwarded to the patients twice a week 09:00 and 17:00 on Mondays and Thursdays for 4 weeks. The patients in the control group received routine clinical discharge training. Data of the outcome of training were obtained with the personal information form and "SF-36 Quality of Life Scale".In the study, it was determined that the average scores of the SF-36 Quality of Life scale sub-dimensions of physical function, role limitation due to physical problems, pain, social function, mental health, role limitation due to emotional state, energy and general understanding of health were statistically significantly increased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p=0.00).In this regard, it is recommended that regular informative text messages should be sent to patients who have undergone radical prostatectomy to increase the quality of life after discharge.
