Abstract (EN)
Sorption of Reactive Red (RR) 120 on Chara contraria was investigated as functions of particle size, adsorbent dose, initial pH regimes, ionic strength, temperature, initial dye concentration, and interaction time. Characterization of the adsorbent was determined by FTIR spectrum. Values of adsorption increased when particle size of adsorbent was decreased. Adsorption process was supported at 1 g/L adsorbent dose and at pH 1. The adsorption value was found to increase with increase in temperature, thereby indicating the process was endothermic. Results indicated that amount of dye uptake per makro-alga significantly increased with increasing initial dye concentration (p<0.01). The adsorption process was rapid in the first 60 contact minutes and then remained constant with increasing contact time. Isotherms of Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin?Radushkevich (D?R) were used in the present study. According to values of SSE and correlation coefficient (R2), Freundlich model was more appropriate isotherm than those of other isotherms to describe the adsorption of RR 120 on the macro-alga. The adsorption kinetic data was excellently defined by Logistic model. Activation parameters derived from Arrhenius and Eyring equations indicated that adsorption process was mainly physical sorption. Results indicated that C. contraria had a great potential for removing of RR120 as an eco-friendly process.
