Refik Ahmet Sevengil's life, art and works

Refik Ahmet Sevengil was a Turkish author who contributed to Turkish literature with novels, stories, plays, script, biographies, researches and three lyrics. However, in the circle of literature he is mostly known as a journalist and researcher of history of theatre. The most particular elements that reshaped his identity as an author are development and advance of recently founded Turkish Republic, the change oriented around the Turkish Revolution and degeneration of the society. Therefore, he prioritized the societal concern in his novels and stories. He often put issues of peasants, corrupted people, harmful bureaucrats on the society, idealist bureaucrats and steps need to be taken for societal development. In his novels, on the other hand, he synthesized corrupted people, woman's position within the society, processes need to be held for development and troubles which peasants and labors suffer from through individual narratives. He gave place the problems theater players having in the background and changing ideas of factory manager in plays he has written. The script he wrote mentioned about miners' situations in Zonguldak in the context of a romance. In his researches and articles, he deeply analyzed the history of Turks' social life, understanding of art, culture and theatre history. With his theatre history researches, he tried to add a holistic point of view to Turkish theatre; trying to start history of Turkish theatre from much earlier time. Poetry Anthologies he made tried to reflect forerunners of old Turkish poetry and Turkish folk poetry with different point of views. He, also, introduced Huseyin Rahmi Gürpınar, who he known closely, in his biography through various aspects to represent Gürpınar's value in Turkish literature. Additionally, he prepared textbooks to contribute to the society as a Republic intellectual and fulfill the gaps that are needed in the society. This work, which is named "Refik Ahmet Sevengil's Life, Art and Works", we tried to point the place of Refik Ahmet's within Turkish literature, his literature value, and the v content of his researches. Besides, we also have made efforts to put Refik Ahmet, who was neglected so far because of various reasons, in agenda with all of his work.
