Abstract (EN)

The relationship between portrait art and photography has begun with the invention of Camera Obscura and saw many developments through years. In this respect, the invention of Camera Obscura and its influences on art and how it triggered innovations in art processes is examined in this work. The relationship between art and photography, how western world and the rest of the world approached to the rise of photography, what kind of developments photography saw through art or vice versa, and the approach of Turkish artists to "art & photography" concept are the main topics discussed. The statements are supported with examples and explanations about work processes of artists, as well as the development processes of art and photography influentially linked with each other. Additionally, the relationship between portrait art and portrait photography in Turkish art, the art of the Primitives who are considered the pioneers of Turkish Art according to significant sources, and the thus far process of art-photography relationship is also examined in this work. The way artists build their compositions based on photography, the importance of resemblences and differences within the interaction between art & photography and the development of this connection over years are analyzed with comparison methods using the photographs that artists based their compositions on, accompanying with the artistic approach of their time. In conclusion, Silver GÖZÜTOK's paintings are analyzed and examined based on the contribution and influence of photography on her works.
