Mental verbs in Risale-i Kudsiyye and index

The formation of language, which is the most important social reconciliation tool, is discussed by the experts in the relevant fields in terms of the interest of disciplines such as linguistics, philosophy, psychology, neurology, and sociology. Mental verb studies, which can be considered within the scope of classification studies related to verbs and a semantic classification study, contribute to the understanding of the mental functioning of the language. It is thought that such thematic studies, which aim to focus on the period or the work, will contribute to the literature in terms of giving an idea about the thinking styles of the people living in the relevant period. Among the studies on the classification of verbs, mental verb analysis is a category that has not been studied in much detail yet. Mental verb studies, which have a wide field of study due to the interest of different disciplines such as psychology, neurology, linguistics, are especially of paramount importance with regards to understanding the language acquisition processes of children and monitoring their language development. This study involves the examinations on the religious-Sufistic work Risale-i Kudsiyye, which is known to start to be written by Emineddin Baba in 1498 (C.E.). The fact that the time when the work was copyrighted coincides with the transition from the Old Anatolian Turkish period to the Ottoman Turkish period makes it worth examining. Within the scope of the study, an examination was made on the mental verbs by translating the work. Verbs that are thought to be mental were classified and examined based on "input-processing-output" steps. Sense verbs are included in the input step, cognitive verbs are included in the processing step, and explanation and emotion verbs are included in the output step. The frequency of use of the verbs mentioned above was determined and turned into statistical data. Besides, the noun inflectional suffixes in the sentences in which mental verbs are predicate were determined.
