Abstract (EN)

Viral agents, which are in the Parapoxvirus genus of the Poxviridae family and infect ruminants, also have zoonotic importance. Members of the Parapoxvirus genus; In addition to causing infection in cattle and other ruminant species, especially sheep and goats, it also poses a risk for people working with animals such as farmers, animal keepers and veterinarians. In this master's thesis, it was aimed to investigate the viral agents in the Parapoxvirus genus of the Poxviridae family in archival materials using nucleic acid-based PCR technique, and for this purpose, archival materials (n=10) were searched by PCR using specific primers for 4 gene regions of Parapoxviruses (ORFV011-B2L, ORFV059-F1L, ORFV020-VIR and ORFV127-vIL-10). All positive samples were subjected to sequence analysis for the related gene regions. With the phylogenetic analyzes, the affinities and distances of the genus in the GenBank database were determined. Through this retrospective study, changes in circulating field viruses between 2003 and 2021 were investigated. The outputs of this thesis are illuminating data on the nearly 20-year history of field viruses circulating in Turkey; We believe that it will serve the programs that can be used in the fight against parapoxviruses.
