Abstract (EN)

This thesis investigates the impact of wind energy on economic growth through a comparative analysis of BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and Turkey for the period 2001-2024. In line with the global energy crisis and sustainable development goals, the strategic significance of renewable energy sources has grown rapidly. Wind energy stands out due to its multifaceted advantages such as environmental sustainability, reduction of import dependency, and job creation. Within this context, the study explores the macroeconomic contributions of wind energy, its integration into industrial policies, and its role in carbon-neutral growth strategies. Furthermore, it evaluates Turkey's potential integration into the BRICS energy ecosystem and presents actionable recommendations for policymakers and private sector stakeholders. The research is structured within a multidimensional framework based on comparative policy analysis, literature review, and statistical data interpretation. Findings indicate that wind energy can be positioned at the core of sustainable growth and that multilateral energy cooperation holds strategic importance for emerging economies. A two-way causal relationship has been identified between wind energy and economic growth in BRICS-T countries. Analyses conducted on a country-by-country basis revealed a causal relationship from economic growth to wind energy for Brazil, China and South Africa, and from wind energy to economic growth for Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Africa and Turkey.
