Investigation of the element of dimension in art education via works of modern Turkish drawing

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the concept of art education defines curricular and extracurricular creative artistic education for all art fields and types (San, 2003:17). Element of dimension which is effective in the development process of art education, design of compositions and pictorial figurations plays an important role in the formation of art works. The effect of dimension is attempted to be conveyed with the help of line, tone, shape, color and texture in compositions. The study examines the samples of Modern Turkish Art works which highlight the element of dimension in compositions. The study is composed of five sections. First section includes the problem statement, sub problems, significance of the problem, purpose and the limitations of the study. In this section, the purposes and limitations related to the question and sub-problems about the importance of studying the volume element in art education through the artworks of Modern Turkish painting were defined. Second section defines the element of dimension - the subject of the study- and investigates its relation with the elements of the composition. Examines the Modern Turkish Drawing and cites the artists who have used the element of dimension and their works emphasizing how they conveyed the element in their works. Third section includes the method, design, universe and sample of the study along with data collection methods. Fourth section is composed of the findings and comments based on expert views about the selected works from Modern Turkish Drawings followed by the results and the suggestions. Results and suggestions include the findings of the study and ideas about future studies in the field and in art education.
