Birds in Şanlıurfa folk culture

Şanlıurfa is one of the richest cities in our country in terms of folk culture. One of the factors that make up this wealth is bird-breeding, especially pigeon. In this study, birds and bird culture in Şanlıurfa folk culture, bird species, disease and treatment methods were examined. The aim of this study is to examine the aviculture which has a special place in the social, cultural and economic life of Şanlıurfa in detail. Field research and literature survey methods were used in the study process. Our study consists of two main chapters with the exception of Introduction, Conclusion and References. In the first chapter, birds 'place in Turkish culture is tried to be determined in Turkish mythology, Turkish literature, Turks' cultural life and beliefs. Examples of these determinations are given. In the second part of the study, information is given about birds in Şanlıurfa public life Information about the beliefs about birds in Şanlıurfa, birds in Şanlıurfa folk literature, bird species raised in Şanlıurfa and their care were collected from the source persons. In the conclusion part of the study, the findings and recommendations regarding the place and importance of aviculture in Şanlıurfa public life are listed as articles. In addition to different aspects of aviculture, it has been determined that there is a way of life for many people in Şanlıurfa and that it has a distinct place in terms of socio-cultural and economic aspects. In the bibliography section, the written and oral sources used during the preparation of the study are given under separate headings. In the annexes, cultural values of Şanlıurfa and photographs of bird species and birdmen in Şanlıurfa are given. Key Words: Şanlıurfa, Folk Culture, Birds, Aviculture
