Abstract (EN)
The history of Şanlıurfa dates back to the Paleolithic age (500,000 - 8,000 BC). Many valuable artifacts belonging to the Neolithic Age (7250 - 5500 BC), the Chalcolithic Age (5500 - 3200 BC), and the Early Bronze Age (3200 - 1800 BC) were found during the excavations. After the Islamization of Şanlıurfa, monumental structures such as Mosques, Masjids, Lodges, Zaviye, Madrasahs, Turkish Baths, cemeteries, and civil architectural structures compatible with lifestyle and topography, which are required by Islamic Culture, created a dense texture in and around Balıklıgöl. In addition, the commercial district of the city developed during the Ottoman period, and many inns, covered bazaars, bazaars, and other monumental structures were built. It is claimed that the word Bedesten comes from Bezzâzistan or Bezistan. Bedestens were places where jewelry, precious stones, weapons, jeweled harnesses, and precious fabrics were sold. In general, structures such as the covered bazaar and arasta are confused with the covered bazaar. However, covered bazaars, which stand out like a castle among inns, shopping places called bazaars, and sometimes even arastas made of wood, are also different because they are centrally located in cities and are unique. Şanlıurfa Bedesteni (Kazaz Bazaar), located in the historic inns and bazaars area of Şanlıurfa province, Eyyübiye district, Pınarbaşı district and surrounded by the Gümrük Han in the north, the Koltukçu Market in the south, the Hanönü Bazaar in the east and the Sipahi Market in the west, was built in 1566 during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, by the Governor of Urfa Behram Pasha. The covered bazaar, in which 'Kazazlık' products, which are produced by processing silk by hand, were made and sold, changed as a result of the art losing its importance and became the place where local clothes are sold in its current form. In the Şanliurfa Bedesten, which is still under the ownership of the Rızvan Ahmet Paşa Foundation, the places rented by the foundation, the local clothes, etc. by the users. It continues to function as shops where products are sold. In this study; Şanlıurfa Bedesten (Kazaz Bazaar), conservation and restoration proposal is the subject. The current state of the building was documented with measurements and photographs, and survey drawings were prepared. Since the construction of the building, external factors, use-related regulations, etc. have changed over time. The damage and changes caused by the reasons were determined, analyzed, and prepared. Comparison studies were carried out with similar structures, a restitution analysis was prepared as a result of survey drawings and researches for the structure, and a restitution project was created. In this direction, the survey and restitution projects were evaluated, scientific conservation methods and intervention decisions were developed, and a restoration project for the preservation of the building was prepared. It will be ensured that the conservation proposals presented with the restoration project prepared in the light of these studies will be implemented and the existing threat will be minimized. It is aimed that all these studies will be a guide for the safe transfer of our cultural heritage to future generations. Keywords: Şanlıurfa, traditional commercial area, bedesten, conservation
