Evaluation of urban freight transportation vehicles with multi-criteria decision-making techniques

The evaluation and selection of alternative models when purchasing freight transportation vehicles is one of the important problems for businesses operating in the freight transport sector. Because buying a vehicle is among the most important cost expenses. This research was conducted in order to provide a model that will help businesses in similar situations by evaluating 6 different vehicle models using 4 main criteria and 14 sub-criteria. In the study, the weight values of the criteria used to rank the alternatives from the most appropriate to the least appropriate were determined with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, one of the Multi Criteria Decision Making Techniques. The final ranking of the alternatives was made with the MOORA Ratio Aprroach method, MOORA Reference Point Approach method, the Full Multiplicative Form method and MULTIMOORA method. Quantitative research methods were used in the research. At the same time, qualitative data were used by taking the subjective opinions of experts. As a result, the most important criterion has been determined as ''Purchase Price", the second most important criterion ''Freight Carrying Capacity'' and the third most important criterion ''Resale Value''. The Ford Transit 350M model has been determined as a more suitable model compared to other alternative models, considering the values of the determined criteria and the importance level of the criteria.
