Abstract (EN)

In this study titled "After Selimiye: The Architectural Style of Sinan Mosques in the Context of the Relation of Space and Structure", the mosques that are considered to have been built between 1568, when Mimar Sinan started the construction of Edirne-Selimiye Mosque, and 1588, the date of his death, are discussed. Sinan, who is known to have built a total of 107 mosques in the three Tezkire written about him, has been examined in 22 mosques that have been built in the last twenty years as the chief architect. The 11 mosques that are the subject of the study are in Istanbul, and the rest are in 10 different cities. Considering the architectural features and the changes they have undergone in the historical process, the structures examined in terms of plan features were evaluated together with the examples before Selimiye, and their similar and different aspects were tried to be revealed. In this context, the differences that emerged were evaluated within the framework of the construction technology of the period, taking into account the social status of the builders; The structural elements that determine the architectural establishment of the buildings, each of which is a part of a kulliye, and the effects of the elements that make up the structure on the facades are also examined. In this context, the mosques built before and after Selimiye were compared with the plan and facade establishments, as well as the determination of Hassa architects who took part in the buildings as a result of archive examinations, and it was tried to be revealed that the construction activity in question was the result of a collective work in accordance with the general structure of the period.
