Analysis of Şemsettin Ünlü's works "Yukarışehir and Toprak Kurşun Geçirmez" in terms of vocabulary

The most important element of a society's ability to express itself is language. What constitutes language is the vocabulary elements that we can call treasures. In this respect, knowing the vocabulary elements of the language well and also researching and examining them highlights its value even more. Proverbs, idioms, reduplications, terms, words of foreign origin, formulaic words, filler words, translated words, slang/vulgar words, formulaic (relationship) words, etc., which are mostly considered worthy of analysis in the language, can be listed as vocabulary elements. This study was prepared to examine Şemsettin Ünlü's works "Yukarışehir and Toprak Kurşun Geçirmez" in terms of vocabulary. For this purpose, the vocabulary elements in the mentioned works were determined and their usage numbers and frequencies were revealed. In this study, the document review method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used while analyzing the works. As a result of the analysis of Şemsettin Ünlü's works "Yukarışehir and Toprak Kurşun Geçirmez", the most frequently used vocabulary elements in the work "Yukarışehir" are words of foreign origin (%75.15). In the second place are reduplications (%12.88), in the third place are idioms (%5.92), in the fourth place are terms (%3.32), in the fifth place are formulaic (relationship) words (%1.66), in the sixth place are filler words (%0.51), in the seventh place are proverbs (%0.3) and in the last place are translated words (%0.25). It has been determined that foreign-origin words, reduplications, idioms and terms are frequently used in the work "Yukarışehir". In the work examined, idioms, terms and formulaic (relationship) words are also given a certain number of places, but reduplications and words of foreign origin are used much more. Proverbs, translated words and filler words are detected in a small number in the work. As a result of the analysis of the work "Toprak Kurşun Geçirmez", the most frequently used vocabulary elements in the work are words of foreign origin (%66.49). In the second place are reduplications (%13.80), in the third place are idioms (%8.64), in the fourth place are terms (%5.47), in the fifth place are formulaic (relationship) words (%3.26), in the sixth place are filler words (%1.82) and in the seventh place are proverbs (%0.52). No translated words were found in the work. It was seen that foreign-origin words, reduplications, idioms and terms were frequently used in the work examined. The excessive use of foreign-origin words and reduplications that VIII have settled into our language contributes to the vocabulary of the readers. In the work examined, a certain number of idioms, terms and formulaic (relationship) words were also given place, but reduplications and foreign-origin words were used much more. While a small number of proverbs and filler words were detected in the work; no translated words were found.
