Abstract (EN)

Surrealism is one of the most important art movements of the 19th century, which is officially born in 1924 and after that it has been managed to turn into a global phenomenon as an art movement. Surrealists, whom investigated the inner world of human by the help of sociology, philosophy and psychology that had been changed by the war began at the beginning of the century and the Industrial Revolution, created a new reality for themselves by virtue of admitting human nature, out of senses. This reality concept, which created by the surrealists and based on the unconscious, seems to influence our culture more than any other art movements of the last century. Throughout surrealism period, ceramic material also freed from the traditional and functional attitude and began to be used as an artistic means of expression. With the surrealism, ceramic material, which gets rid of the traditional roots and began the process of modernization, has gained formally and conceptually new forms of expression. The aim of this study is, to analyze the impact of the Surrealist movement to contemporary ceramic art
