Abstract (EN)

This study, the works written by Şermin Yaşar for children are examined within the context of character analysis. During the research process, document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was utilized. The research material consists of ten children's books authored by Şermin Yaşar. The main objective of the study is to analyze the child characters in the determined works. In this respect, this study sought to answer the following questions: Are the child characters in the books open or closed characters? / What personal features the child characters possess? / Are the child characters dynamic or static? / Through which method are child characters presented in books? For this purpose, the child characters in the books were analyzed, and findings, relevant to the sub-objectives, were obtained. The analysis revealed that the characteristics and development methods of the child characters have qualities that support the emotional and cognitive development of readers. The predominance of open and dynamic characters suggests that such characters may serve as elements of identification for readers. Additionally, the frequent use of interactive methods of character presentation indicates that readers are more likely to form connections with the characters and engage actively in the events of the narrative. These findings demonstrate that the author creates literary characters that support character development. The works are also considered to provide significant examples in terms of enhancing children's empathy skills. Important samples presented in the works towards students character development and can be used in Turkish lessons.
