Abstract (EN)

Cemaleddin Mahmud Hulvi, born in 1574, lived until 1653-1654. He spent the early years of his upbringing in his father's profession as a confectioner and sweets maker; in his youth, he enthusiastically pursued a career in the military. Upon his father's death, he abandoned the military and joined Necmeddin Hasan Efendi, dedicating the rest of his life to the path of Sufism. He transformed his family home into a Sufi lodge, where he assumed the role of a spiritual leader, mentoring students and serving as a preacher in various mosques. Simultaneously, he engaged with literature, penning various works. One of his notable works, Hamse, was written around 1617-1621, in his forties, aiming to educate devout individuals on religious, Sufi, and moral subjects. The work is a response to Taşlıcalı Yahya's Hamse. Hulvi, admiring the religious, moral, and Sufi aspects of Yahya Bey's mathnawi, responded with a paraphrase titled Hamse in a simple and clear language. The thesis on this work and Hulvi consists of four chapters, including the introduction. The introduction section delves into the mathnawi poetic form, the tradition of hamse and, paraphrase Hulvi's biography, and his mystical and literary persona. The first chapter, titled "Analysis of Hamse," examines and evaluates the formal, linguistic, stylistic, and thematic features of Hamse. The structure and sections are then discussed, with a focus on the conversion of sections, articles, and stories into prose. The chapter concludes by addressing the content of Hamse. In the second chapter, Hulvi's work titled "Hamse" is evaluated according to the tradition of paraphrase and hamse. Subsequently, a comparative analysis is conducted between Hulvi's Hamse and Taşlıcalı Yahya's Hamse in terms of structure, form, language, style, conversion, and content. The third chapter focuses on the examination of manuscript copies of the work Hamse. It introduces manuscript copies, discusses the existence of an authorial line, and explores spelling features. Simultaneously, considerations during the transcription of the manuscript are presented. The fourth and final chapter presents the transcribed text of Hulvi's work Hamse, followed by an evaluation under the title of conclusions. An index of proper names and bibliography are prepared.
