According to Sicill-i Ahval Defters statesmen from Silifke

With the Tanzimat Period in Ottoman Empire, a big trend to western style mentality can be clearly seen in innovation of govermental system. At the same time , bureaucracy gained a significant importance and assignment of new officiers increased as a result. There weren't any registration system of officcers in the state before. However, in the period of II. Abdulhamid the Sultan, we can mention about paces in centralization. With the aim of recording information concerning clerks working in Ottoman State, Sicill-i Ahval commission was established. Sicill-i Ahval notebooks contain detailed information about the names of clerks, birth places, family names, educational, backgrounds, languages, nationalities, inauguration ages, previous jobs, salaries, awards and punisments etc. These are light to our present times in terms of historical researches. The detailed information about clerks in Silifke is the main theme of my thesis project.
